Automatic Bill Payment
H-D Electric Cooperative now offers our members the Automatic Payment Plan. You can have your payment made automatically from your checking or savings account. Auto Bill Payment saves time, eliminates check writing, saves postage and ensures your payment will always be on time.
How It Works:
H-D Electric is authorized to deduct payment from your checking or savings account automatically on the 15th day of each month (or the following Monday if the 15th falls on a weekend). Proof of payment will appear on your bank statement. the monthly billing statement will show the amount paid each month.
The authority you give to charge your account will remain in effect until you notify us in writing to terminate the authorization. To take advantage of this service, contact our office. We will send you an authorization form to complete and return to the co-op, or complete the form below.
If you're interested in participating in this program, print out the application below, fill it out and mail it back to us.
I have my paycheck deposited automatically into my bank account. Is automatic bill payment anything like direct deposit of payment?
Yes! It is the same process in reverse. Instead of deposits being made into your account, payments are made through it via a national electronic payment system.
How can you take money out of my account? Only with your authorization. No one is allowed to collect payments from your account automatically unless you specifically authorized it. To do this, you must fill out and return an authorization form.
My bill is different every month. How will I know how much money I owe? The cooperative will send you a monthly statement, at your request, showing the charges that will be paid from your account. If you have any questions regarding them, you should call our office at (605)874-2171 or 1-800-358-7233.
If I don't write checks, how do I keep my checkbook balance straight? Your pament is made at the same time each month as described above, so you can deduct it from the check record then.
Without canceled checks, how can I prove I made my payments? Your bank statement gives you an itemized list of automatic payments. It is your proof of payment. It also makes reconciling your checking or savings account easy.
Is automatic bill payment risky? Automatic payments may actually be less risky than check payments. they cannot be lost, stolen or destroyed in the mail and have an extremely high rate of accuracy.
What if I try automatic bill payment and don't like it? You may cancel your authorization for automatic bill payment at any time by notifying us in writing. But once you have enjoyed the convenience of automatic bill payment, it is not likely you will want to go back to paying bills the hard way.
